Virgil van Dijk reveals Sergio Aguero is toughest opponent he's ever had to mark
Ask anyone who they think the best defender in the world is, and chances are they'll quickly answer with Virgil van Dijk. The 6-4 giant is an absolute beast inside the box, and is no stranger to heading in a beautiful goal either for Liverpool.
Well, during a recent Q&A with fans on social media, someone asked van Dijk who the toughest player to mark he's gone up against has been. His response will surely bring a smile to supporters who love Manchester City.
Aguero— Virgil van Dijk (@VirgilvDijk) March 31, 2020
Oh yeah, the one and only Sergio Aguero. The Argentine forward is an absolute legend and will be remembered for ever outside the Etihad Stadium. With Aguero's brilliance on the pitch, City has gone on to win back-to-back league titles.
You better believe van Dijk hates City, as it's one of the best rivalries of late in the EPL. However, he's also as classy a player as they come, so it should come as no surprise whatsoever that he gave major props to Aguero on Twitter.
While these two are familiar with one another, we're going to have to wait a little longer to see them in action once again. With the COVID-19 pandemic still in full force, it's up in the air if play will resume this season.
If it does, a Liverpool-City showdown would be great to watch, with van Dijk and Aguero going head to head inside the penalty area making it even more entertaining.
