PSG star Kylian Mbappe flattered Lionel Messi is looking out for him

It goes without saying, but Barcelona legend Lionel Messi has been the ‘man’ in Europe for years now. It’s a constant battle between him and Cristiano Ronaldo, but his 2019 Ballon d’Or cemented his status as the best of the best.

However, there’s a new kid in town charging after Messi’s goal-scoring crowns. Yup, that’d be Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe. Last season, Messi scored 36 goals and edged out Mbappe (33 goals) for Europe’s Golden Shoe.

In a recent interview with France Football, Mbappe said he had a one-on-one talk with Ousmane Dembele, Messi’s teammate at Barcelona, about the two going head-to-head last year for the Golden Shoe. Dembele revealed to Mbappe that Messi was keeping tabs on his goals.

As you might imagine, Mbappe was a bit starstruck when hearing of this. It is Messi after all.

“I said to myself, ‘Ah, not bad, Messi is watching me.’ It’s flattering to see that such a player is not overlooking you,” Mbappe said recently.

On Dec. 20, the French forward turned just 21 years old. He’s still not even in the prime of his career, but what he’s accomplished can’t be forgotten. Already to his name, Mbappe has a World Cup, three Ligue 1 titles and more than 100 goals.

There’s a good reason Messi is watching him. This kid is the real deal and one of the best in the world.
