Mahomes is coming off an unreal 2022 season. Last year, Mahomes not only took home NFL MVP honors for his brilliant play, but he also was named Super Bowl MVP after leading KC over the Eagles. So, what can we expect from Mahomes in Week 1 against the Lions?

All eyes will be on Patrick Mahomes in Week 1 for the Chiefs

Last year in the season-opener, Mahomes tossed for 360 yards and five touchdowns. The year before in Week 1, he threw for 337 yards and three touchdowns. It's almost a lock for Mahomes to ball out to open the new season.

This contest has plenty of buzz as well. After a busy spring and summer, the Lions are being considered a team on the rise in the NFC North. With Aaron Rodgers now in Green Bay, the Lions could end up being a dark horse contender to win the division.

That's all good and well, but let's not forget that the Chiefs have been one of the best teams in the game in recent years. Mahomes already has two Super Bowl titles to his name. He's been to three Super Bowls, losing one to Tom Brady and the Bucs.

However, there's a great chance that he wins ring No. 3 this winter. Mahomes holds the No. 1 odds to win NFL MVP and the Chiefs also hold the top odds to win the Super Bowl. This tells us that it could be another season to remember for the AFC West powerhouse.

On Thursday night, plenty of Mahomes' haters will be out in full force trying to bring him down. It's going to be a waste of time. The standout QB is a beast with the ball in his hands and he should make life difficult for the entire Detroit defense in primetime.
