Lionel Messi continues to flourish now that he's at PSG

Lionel Messi is the clear favorite to win the Ballon d'Or Award

What a year it has been for Argentina and Paris Saint-Germain superstar Lionel Messi. The forward continues to create magic both at the club and international level. That's why he could be looking at making more history next month.

With the Ballon d'Or Award set to be presented in late November, Messi is no doubt the favorite to take home soccer's highest individual honor. He's already won it six times. So, could Messi increase his record and reach No. 7?

Leo Messi Copa America win should send things over the top

It goes without saying, but the Copa America Final win over Brazil was the biggest monkey off the back for Messi. After losing four finals - including the 2015 Copa America which led him to quitting the team - Messi finally lifted the cup taking down Brazil on the road.

The tears flew from Messi's face and understandably so. He was brilliant throughout the tournament, scoring some truly amazing goals. All of his haters were clinging to the fact that he had never won a major tourney with Argentina to try and bring him down.

They can't do that anymore. For Messi, many believe that Copa America win even sent him past Cristiano Ronaldo in the GOAT conversation. From our chair, it's most certainly helped him be in the lead for the Ballon d'Or.

Messi's move to Paris Saint-Germain hasn't slowed him down

Meanwhile at the club level, Messi's move out of Barcelona this summer was nothing short of a stunner. Even more eyebrows were raised when he made his way to Paris Saint-Germain, but he's ready to win the Champions League with the Ligue 1 giants this year.

All in all, 2020-21 has been an amazing campaign for Messi. He has scored 38 goals, provided 14 assists, won the Copa America, won the Copa Del Rey and on top of that he's become the all-time goal-scoring leader for CONMEBOL World Cup qualifiers. Seriously? The man is not from this planet.

Despite now being 34 years old, Messi isn't slowing down whatsoever. Later this fall, there's no doubt the man should receive the Ballon d'Or honor once again. He truly deserves it.
