UEFA Champions League Round of 16 matchups announced

Get pumped, European football fans. The Champions League Round of 16 draw took place on Monday morning and we’ve got some incredible matchups for when the competition gets back underway in late February.

While some showdowns stand out more than others, few can argue the most exciting battle will feature Manchester City vs. Real Madrid.

The English Premier League and La Liga powers will face off in the first leg on Feb. 26, with the second match coming on March 17. A trip to the quarterfinals of course will be on the line.

Can you imagine Raheem Sterling, Gabriel Jesus, Kevin De Bruyne and Co. going up against Real Madrid’s outstanding defense, led by team captain Sergio Ramos? Yup, this will be a good one.

Elsewhere in England, don’t think for a second we’ve forgotten about the defending Champions League winners. Liverpool will meet Atletico Madrid in the Round of 16. Can Mo Salah, Sadio Mane and Jurgen Klopp lead this team to back-to-back trophies?

As for Chelsea, they’ve been drawn up against Bayern Munich. Yes, the same matchup from the 2012 Champions League final, where the Blues were able to win it all during a penalty shootout. No one, and I mean no one has forgotten about Didier Drogba’s equalizer in the final minutes of that game either.

Over in France, Paris Saint-Germain were eliminated from the competition against Manchester United in last year’s Round of 16, but will look to get past Dortmund this time around. With a healthy Neymar and Edinson Cavani, PSG is a serious threat to go on a deep run this year.

The other sets of matches feature Atalanta vs. Valencia, Lyon vs. Juventus, Tottenham vs. Leipzig and Napoli vs. Barcelona.
