Sports Cards and Memorabilia are about to make a Major Comeback

Growing up for many of us out there, there were few things more exciting than opening up a brand new pack of sports cards. Whether it was for basketball, football, baseball, soccer or hockey, it provided so much happiness. Things were even sweeter whenever you’d get the cards of some of your favorite players out there.
If you were lucky, you’d get something extra special on Christmas. A Michael Jordan rookie card? A signed Ken Griffey Jr. card? What a feeling of excitement moments like those brought. In recent years, though, the culture has shifted with sports memorabilia, and sports cards are widely considered an afterthought. Who would have thought 20 years ago this would be the case?
Hey, in 1996, you’d go up to your favorite player with his card and ask for an autograph at a game. The lines to get their signature would be miles long. In 2019, if you have the chance to meet a star player, you’re not bringing a card for him to sign. You’re getting your phone out and getting an Instagram-worthy shot. It’s the modern-day autograph, no doubt about it.
But, could things be changing down the road? A comeback for sports cards and memorabilia? If you ask American entrepreneur Gary Vaynerchuk, the answer would be a resounding yes. In a recent commentary post, Vaynerchuk brought up some valid points, ranging from nostalgia for sports fans, to the growth of sports betting and much more.
From a nostalgia standpoint, he hit the nail right on the head with this one. Regardless of which sport is your favorite to watch or play, there’s undeniably at least 3-4 players you loved watching and admired growing up. Well, why not get out and buy some of their cards to display at home?
From an autograph stand point, what if you’re a big Manchester City fan, but making the voyage to England isn’t an easy one to make. Sergio Aguero’s Premier League-winning goal in 2012 will forever be one of your favorite memories. Hey, if you can’t get a selfie with the man, why not an autographed card? Doesn’t sound like a bad trade-off, does it?
We should mention you’ll have that option with us here at Signables, as we’re working closely with Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Paris Saint-German and Chelsea to make sure you can get your hands on items from superstar players you love watching compete on the pitch for 90 minutes.
