The heartbreaking scenes remain fresh in the minds of the Paris-Saint Germain players from the Champions League last season. Built with a team to go on a deep run, they were stunned at home by Manchester United following a penalty kick from Marcus Rashford in stoppage time to lose on aggregate (away goals).
Just like that, they were eliminated. Perhaps no one was left in more disbelief than Neymar, who missed the clash due to injury. He went viral for how stunned he look after the defeat.
If anything, though, it has only fueled and motivated him to stay fit and help PSG in the Champions League this season. Thus far, things have looked good, as the French side is set to take on Dortmund in the Round of 16. The first leg is scheduled for Feb. 18 in Germany, with the second leg in Paris on March 11.
With a trip to the quarterfinals on the line, expect Neymar to be ready to rock and help this team, along with other stars like Kylian Mbappe, to advance. Neymar has looked sharp this year in Ligue 1 play, scoring 11 goals in 12 matches. He's added five assists.
In his two Champions League games this season, he also has one goal. There's no question pressure will be on him, especially with reports swirling he's hoping to sign a new long-term contract with PSG in the near future.
Should he help the team go on a deep run in the CL, he'll have all the power in those contract talks. Again, there will be pressure on him, but the Brazilian star has proven time and time again he's ready to step up and silence his haters.
