On Tuesday night, the team hosted Shakhtar Donetsk, needing only a draw against the Ukrainian side to move on in the tournament. Despite not being able to go home with a victory, City and Shakhtar played to a 1-1 tie, giving the English powerhouse 11 points in five group matches.

After the two clubs went scoreless in the first 45 minutes of action, Man City wasted little time in the second half to take hold of the advantage.

In the 56th minute, German midfielder İlkay Gundogan got the party started at the Etihad Stadium by calmly collecting the ball inside the box and delivering a classy finish past defenders to the back of the net.

Unfortunately for the home side, Shakhtar’s Manor Solomon evened things up at 1-1 in the 69th minute with a goal of his own. Despite not earning the three points, the job was completed by City, which had its eyes on moving on to the next round leading up to Tuesday’s match.

Now, Pep Guardiola’s boys will have to wait for the Round of 16 draw, which is set to take place on Dec. 16 in Nyon, Switzerland. Before that, however, they’ll have one more Group C match to play against Dinamo Zagreb (Croatia) on Dec. 11.
