The painful wait is over Liverpool fans. While it’s been a long and miserable 30 years for some Reds fans, one of the greatest clubs of English football can call themselves the English Premier League title champions once again.

On Thursday night, LFC was able to secure that title after Chelsea took care of business against Manchester City 2-1 at Stamford Bridge. With the loss, City now mathematically can’t catch up to Liverpool to somehow snatch the trophy away from them.

Make no mistake about it, though, this wasn’t Chelsea helping Liverpool win the league. Nope, it was only a matter of time before LFC was crowned the champs for the first time since the 1989-1990 campaign. What the team has been able to accomplish this year has been nothing short of extraordinary.

Following its 4-0 thrashing of Crystal Palace on Wednesday, Liverpool reached 86 points, needing only 31 matches to reach that number. Are you kidding? Those stats are mind-blowing. Thus far on the campaign, Liverpool has 28 wins, two draws and only one loss on its record. Again, simply insane.

Take your pick at which players have been phenomenal for the club this year. Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino have paced the attack, while youngster Trent Alexander-Arnold has become one of the finest right-backs not just in the EPL, but in the world.

Defensively, Virgil van Dijk is arguably the best centre-back on the planet, while Alisson Becker is a brick wall between the posts at goalie. We’d be foolish not to mention the incredible play of Jordan Henderson, Andy Robertson, Fabinho, Joe Gomez and others. This no doubt has been a total team effort and a long time coming.

Liverpool was so close to winning the title last year, but fell short to Man City. Remember in 2014 when Steven Gerrard had his infamous slip against Chelsea, or when the Reds were up 3-0 at Crystal Palace, but saw their title dreams wiped away when they blew that lead? Sure you do. As much as those memories may have haunted you, that’s all in the past.

The present tells us that there’s only one team at the top of English football: Liverpool Football Club.
