Chelsea FC Edouard Mendy

Chelsea FC Edouard Mendy deal now complete and the goalie is headed to Stamford Bridge

The Chelsea FC deal for Edouard Mendy is reportedly now complete, which means Frank Lampard has his new soccer goalie and Kepa may not be the No. 1 option for the Blues for much longer. That's because the Edouard Mendy stats are impressive.

On Friday morning, Chelsea news broke from insider Fabrizio Romano that Rennes has officially accepted the Chelsea bid for Edouard Mendy. At the same time, Romano is reporting the team is also still interested in adding Declan Rice from West Ham United.

This of course is monster Chelsea FC news for Blues fans everywhere, as it looks like Kepa Arrizabalaga's stint as Lampard's starter may be coming to a close. Kepa started 33 English Premier League games last season, and added six starts in the Champions League. This also adds to the incredible transfer window for Chelsea, who have now added Mendy, Kai Havertz, Timo Werner, Thiago Silva and others.

Kepa was under fire by Chelsea fans throughout the year, though, as he was constantly making mistakes that proved costly for the team. That won't be the case with Mendy. Last season, the Edouard Mendy stats truly were head-turning, as he didn't allow any goals in 24 Ligue 1 matches/starts. He also started four Europa League games, recording four shutouts.

Now with his deal complete, Mendy will get ready to put on a Chelsea jersey and embark on a long Chelsea schedule of games, which is set to begin on Monday with a showdown against Brighton. All eyes will be on Lampard to see which player he decides to start between the posts.

From the looks of things, however, it's looking more and more likely that Mendy could be given a quick nod.
